Looker Studio

Install the AnswerixAI Looker Studio connector and blend AI visibility, share of voice, citations and AI traffic with GA4 and Search Console.

Updated

The AnswerixAI connector for Looker Studio brings your AI visibility metrics into your own Looker Studio reports. You can put AI visibility, share of voice, citations and AI traffic on the same dashboard as your Google Analytics 4 and Search Console data. It's built for agencies and teams that already report in Looker Studio. The connector reads data through the Metrics API with an AnswerixAI API key.

What do I need before I start?

To use the AnswerixAI Looker Studio connector you need three things: an AnswerixAI API key, a Google account that can use Looker Studio and Google Apps Script, and the connector files from the download zip.

  • An AnswerixAI API key. Open Settings, select the API Keys tab and click New key. Copy the ans_... key straight away, because it's shown only once. See API keys.
  • A Google account that can use Looker Studio and Google Apps Script.
  • The connector files: download the connector. The zip contains Code.js, appsscript.json and a README.md.

How do I install the connector?

The connector runs as a Google Apps Script project in your own Google account.

  1. Go to script.google.com and create a new project.
  2. Open Project Settings and turn on Show "appsscript.json" manifest file in editor.
  3. In the editor, replace the contents of appsscript.json with the file from the zip.
  4. Replace the contents of the default script file with Code.js from the zip, then save the project.
  5. Click Deploy → Test deployments and copy the Head deployment ID.
  6. Open https://lookerstudio.google.com/datasources/create?connectorId= followed by your deployment ID.

How do I connect a data source?

  1. Authorize the connector when Looker Studio asks.
  2. Paste your AnswerixAI API key when you're asked for a key.
  3. Choose a Brand. The list shows the brands your API key can access.
  4. Choose a Metric set.
  5. Click Connect, then Add to report.

Each data source shows one metric set for one brand. To use more than one metric set, or more than one brand, add a data source for each.

Which metric sets are available?

The AnswerixAI Looker Studio connector offers four metric sets: Visibility Trend (daily) by date, Share of Voice by Platform, Citations — Top Domains by domain and source category, and AI Traffic by Platform. Each data source shows one metric set for one brand.

Metric set Dimensions Metrics
Visibility Trend (daily) Date Avg Visibility Score, Mentions, Citations, Tracked Results, Avg Competitor Score
Share of Voice by Platform Platform Brand Mentions, Competitor Mentions, Share of Voice %
Citations — Top Domains Domain, Source Category Citations, Results Citing, Usage %
AI Traffic by Platform Platform Visits

Does Avg Visibility Score match the dashboard's Visibility score?

No. Avg Visibility Score in the Visibility Trend set is a legacy metric: the average of per-answer visibility scores for each day. It won't match the headline Visibility score on the dashboard, which is calculated across all answers with the formula in Visibility scoring.

The headline score is available in the Metrics API as ai_visibility_score on daily visibility trend buckets, but the connector doesn't include it as a field. Use Mentions and Citations for totals, and treat Avg Visibility Score as a trend line rather than the number your dashboard shows.

How does the date range work?

A date range is required. The connector sends the report's date range with every request, so add a date range control to your report to change the period. You don't set dates on the data source itself.

How do I blend AnswerixAI with GA4?

To blend AnswerixAI with GA4 in Looker Studio, use the Visibility Trend (daily) metric set, because it's the only one with a Date dimension. Blend it with a GA4 data source on the date field, then chart an AnswerixAI metric and a GA4 metric together:

  1. Add a GA4 data source and an AnswerixAI Visibility Trend data source to your report.
  2. Blend the two data sources, joining them on the date field.
  3. Add a time series chart with an AnswerixAI metric, such as Mentions, and a GA4 metric, such as sessions, on two axes.

What limits apply?

Four limits apply to the AnswerixAI Looker Studio connector: responses are cached for 5 minutes, an API key only sees brands in its creator's organization, a revoked key stops the data source working, and the API allows 250 requests every 15 minutes per IP address.

  • Caching: the connector caches each response for 5 minutes, so a report with many charts doesn't send the same request again and again. New data can take up to 5 minutes to show.
  • Organization scope: an API key belongs to the person who created it and only sees brands in their organization.
  • Revoked keys: if you revoke the API key under Settings → API Keys, the data source stops working with AnswerixAI rejected the API key — it may have been revoked. Edit the data source and enter a new key.
  • Rate limit: the API allows 250 requests every 15 minutes per IP address.

Which plans include Looker Studio?

Looker Studio is included on the Growth, Business and Enterprise plans. See Billing and plans. For fixed, shareable snapshots instead of live data, use Reports.
