AI Traffic Analytics

Measure visits to your website from ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, Copilot and other AI assistants with one tracking snippet.

Updated

AnswerixAI AI Traffic Analytics measures the visits your website gets from AI assistants. Most analytics tools file these visits under "direct" or generic "referral", so you can't tell a visitor from ChatGPT apart from one who typed your URL. AnswerixAI's tracking snippet recognizes AI referrers and reports each visit by platform, landing page and country.

Open it from AI Traffic Analytics in the dashboard sidebar. It is available on every paid plan.

How do I set up AI traffic tracking?

  1. Open AI Traffic Analytics and select your brand.

  2. Copy the snippet from the Add this snippet to your website banner with the copy button. Each brand has its own tracking code. The snippet looks like this:

    <script src="https://…/t.js" data-t="YOUR_TRACKING_CODE" defer></script>

  3. Paste the snippet before the closing </head> tag on every page you want to track, for example in your site template, theme header or tag manager.

  4. Publish the change. Visits from AI assistants appear on the page the next time you load or reload it.

Always copy the snippet from the page rather than from this example: it contains your brand's tracking code and the correct script address. The same snippet is also on the Tracking tab of your brand settings.

Which AI assistants does it detect?

The AnswerixAI AI Traffic Analytics snippet detects visits from ten AI assistants by their referring domain: ChatGPT, Perplexity, Claude, Gemini, Copilot, Google Labs, You.com, Phind, Meta AI and Poe. It records a visit when the referrer is one of these sites, or a subdomain of one:

Platform Referring domains
ChatGPT chatgpt.com, chat.openai.com, search.chatgpt.com
Perplexity perplexity.ai
Claude claude.ai
Gemini gemini.google.com
Copilot copilot.microsoft.com
Google Labs labs.google
You.com you.com
Phind phind.com
Meta AI meta.ai
Poe poe.com

Two more signals catch visits without one of these referrers:

  • utm_source tags: a landing URL whose utm_source contains chatgpt or openai counts as ChatGPT. One containing perplexity, claude, gemini or copilot counts as that platform.
  • Bing click-through links: a visit from a bing.com click-through link is recorded as Bing.

Are non-AI visits recorded?

No. The snippet only sends data when it identifies an AI platform. Visits from search engines, social networks, other websites or direct traffic are ignored and never reach AnswerixAI, so the snippet doesn't replace your main analytics tool.

What does the AI Traffic Analytics page show?

The AnswerixAI AI Traffic Analytics page shows three KPI cards (AI-Referred Visits, Top Platform and Platforms), a trend chart and platform breakdowns, your top landing pages, and a log of individual AI-referred visits. Everything on the page follows the selected date range, which defaults to the last 7 days.

How do I change the date range and export visits?

Pick a range with the date control: 24h, 7d, 30d, 90d, All or Custom. The default is the last 7 days. Export CSV downloads the visit log for the current range, platform filter and search (up to 1,000 visits), with the timestamp, platform, page URL and referrer of each visit.

What do the KPI cards show?

The three AI Traffic Analytics KPI cards show AI-Referred Visits (total visits in the range, with the change vs the previous period), Top Platform (the AI platform that sent the most visits) and Platforms (how many different AI sources sent visits).

Card What it shows
AI-Referred Visits Total AI-referred visits in the range, with the percentage change vs the previous period of the same length.
Top Platform The AI platform that sent the most visits, with its visit count.
Platforms How many different AI sources sent visits.

With All selected there is no previous period, so no change is shown.

Which charts and tables are on the page?

AI Traffic Analytics has four charts and tables: AI Referral Trend for visits per day by platform, Platform Breakdown for each platform's share, Referrals by Platform for visits and change per platform, and Top Landing Pages for the 10 pages with the most AI-referred visits.

  • AI Referral Trend: visits per day, split by platform, for the selected range.
  • Platform Breakdown: each platform's share of visits.
  • Referrals by Platform: Platform, Visits and Change vs the previous period. A platform with no visits in the previous period shows "new".
  • Top Landing Pages: the 10 pages that received the most AI-referred visits, with Visits and Change.

What does the Recent AI Referral Visits log show?

Recent AI Referral Visits is a paginated log of individual visits, 10 per page, with Time, Platform, Page and Country. Filter it by platform with the All platforms menu, or search with Search by URL or path.... Click Clear filters to reset both.

The country is read from the visitor's request headers when the visit is recorded. If no country is available, the column is empty.

What is the "Pages AI engines aren't sending traffic to" card?

If you've connected Google Analytics, AI Traffic Analytics can show a card named Pages AI engines aren't sending traffic to. It lists pages that carry weight on your site but received no AI-referred visit over the last 28 days. The card is refreshed once a day and appears only when there are findings.

Pages are ranked by the strongest signal your Analytics property reports: revenue, orders, conversions, or engagement time when none of those exist. The AI visibility column explains each page:

  • Cited: AI answers already cite the page, so the problem is click-through.
  • Not cited: a prompt you track targets the page, but no answer cites it.
  • No prompt: nothing you track points at the page.

See Google Search Console and GA4 to connect Analytics.

Privacy

The pixel collects: referrer, URL, country (via IP geolocation), language, screen size, anonymized IP, user agent. It does NOT use cookies, fingerprinting, or any cross-site identifiers. No GDPR consent banner needed in most jurisdictions.

How do I troubleshoot AI traffic tracking?

Most AI Traffic Analytics problems have one of three causes: the snippet isn't installed correctly on the live site, the selected date range has no visits, or an AI assistant opened your link without passing a referrer.

  • No visits after installing: confirm the snippet is inside <head> on the live site and that its data-t value matches the snippet on the page. Then open your site from a link in an AI assistant and reload the dashboard.
  • "No traffic in this period": there are visits, but none in the selected range. Click Show all data to see the full history.
  • A platform you expected is missing: some assistants open links without passing a referrer. Add a utm_source value to links you control, for example ?utm_source=chatgpt.
