API keys
Create and revoke AnswerixAI API keys for the REST API, Metrics API, Looker Studio and MCP server. Keys start with ans_ and are shown once.
Updated
AnswerixAI API keys are the long-lived tokens that external tools use to read your data: the REST API, the Metrics API behind the Looker Studio connector, and the MCP server used by AI assistants. You manage them in Settings → API Keys.
What is an AnswerixAI API key?
An AnswerixAI API key is a secret string that starts with ans_. Each key is personal, acts on your whole organization, and is shown only once. You send it in the Authorization header as Bearer ans_…, as described in Authentication.
- Personal: each key belongs to the team member who created it. You only see and manage your own keys.
- Organization-wide: a key acts on the organization you belong to and can reach all of that organization's brands.
- Shown once: AnswerixAI stores only a hash of the key. After you close the dialog, only the first characters of the key (its prefix) stay visible.
How do I create an API key?
- Open Settings and select API Keys.
- Click New key.
- Enter a Name you will recognize later, for example "MCP — my laptop". A name is required.
- Click Create.
- In Copy your API key, click the copy button and store the key somewhere safe. You won't be able to see it again.
- Click Done.
Where do you find the MCP endpoint?
The API Keys section shows the MCP endpoint URL for your workspace, which ends in /api/mcp. Paste that URL and a key into Claude Desktop, Claude Code or Cursor to connect the MCP server. Setup steps are in the MCP server guide.
The host part of the MCP endpoint is also the base URL for the REST API and the Metrics API.
What does the key list show?
Each key shows its name, its prefix, the date it was created and the date it was last used. Revoked keys stay in the list with a revoked badge.
How do I revoke an API key?
- In Settings → API Keys, click the trash icon next to the key.
- Confirm with Revoke.
Revocation is immediate: the next request made with that key gets a 401 response. You can't restore a revoked key, so create a new one if you still need access.
What happens to keys when your team changes?
A key always acts on the organization its owner currently belongs to. If the owner is removed from the organization, their keys no longer return that organization's data. If the owner joins a different organization, their keys follow them there.
Next steps
- REST API: every endpoint you can call with a key.
- Metrics API: the read-only endpoints for reporting tools.
