Competitors & head-to-head
Track named competitors in AI answers and compare your visibility with any one of them, prompt by prompt and platform by platform.
Updated
Competitor tracking in AnswerixAI shows how often AI engines mention the brands you compete with, and how you compare with each one prompt by prompt. It is for teams that want to know where a rival wins AI answers and where you lead. Competitor tracking is included on every paid plan.
How do I open the Competitors page?
The AnswerixAI Competitors page has no sidebar item. You open it from the Leaderboard on the Visibility page by clicking Head-to-Head Comparison:
- Open Visibility in the sidebar.
- In the Leaderboard, click Head-to-Head Comparison.
The page lives at /dashboard/competitors and uses the brand selected in the brand switcher.
How does AnswerixAI detect competitors?
Outside the setup wizard's suggestions, AnswerixAI only detects competitors you add. Each AI answer is checked for your brand and for every tracked competitor, and the result is stored with the answer. Brands you haven't added are not counted, and there is no automatic competitor discovery.
A competitor added today is detected in answers collected from then on. To get useful comparisons, add the brands that AI engines actually name in your category.
How do I add a competitor?
You can add competitors to AnswerixAI in three places: the Competitors page with Add Competitor, the Domains tab on the Citations page with Add as competitor, and the Competitors tab in brand settings. Each competitor needs a name, and adding its domain is optional but recommended.
- Competitors page: click Add Competitor, enter a Name and, optionally, a Domain, then click Add.
- Citations: on the Domains tab, click Add as competitor on a third-party domain. See Citations.
- Brand settings: open the Competitors tab in brand settings.
Enter the name the way AI engines write it, for example Acme Corp rather than acme.com. The domain is optional, but add it: AnswerixAI uses it to label the competitor's pages as Competitor on the Citations page, to build the competitor source lists in Competitor Gaps, and to match product cards in AI Shopping.
To stop tracking a competitor, hover its card and click the delete icon, then confirm with Yes, remove competitor. AnswerixAI stops tracking the competitor and drops it from your comparisons. Past answers keep their data, but it can no longer be linked back to the competitor, and removal can't be undone.
What do the competitor cards show?
Each card in the AnswerixAI Tracked Competitors list shows a competitor's name and domain plus two numbers: its all-time Visibility score (0–100) and Prompts, the share of your tracked prompts where it appeared, such as "12/40 prompts".
- Visibility score: the competitor's all-time AI Visibility score, the same 0–100 metric as the Visibility leaderboard. See Visibility scoring.
- Prompts: visible prompts over total prompts, for example "12/40 prompts", meaning the competitor appeared in answers to 12 of your 40 prompts.
Hover the score to see the underlying counts: answers that mention the competitor, answers that cite it, its position factor, and total mentions and citations. Click a card to open the head-to-head comparison; click it again to close it.
How does the head-to-head comparison work?
The head-to-head comparison puts your brand against one competitor across every AI answer AnswerixAI has collected for your brand. It uses the per-answer visibility score (0–100) of each answer and has four parts.
What do the summary scores show?
The head-to-head comparison opens with three summary cards: Your Avg. Score, Their Avg. Score and Score Difference. Score Difference is your average per-answer score minus the competitor's, so a positive number means you lead:
- Your Avg. Score: your average per-answer score across all answers.
- Their Avg. Score: the competitor's average per-answer score across the answers where it appears.
- Score Difference: your average minus theirs. Positive means you lead.
What do the Gaps and Strengths tabs show?
The Gaps tab lists up to 10 answers where the competitor scored higher than you, largest difference first. The Strengths tab lists up to 10 answers where you scored higher. Answers to the same prompt are grouped into one row that shows the prompt, both scores and the difference; expand the row to see each platform.
What does Platform Breakdown show?
Platform Breakdown shows your average score and the competitor's side by side for each AI platform, with the difference. Use it to find engines where a competitor is much stronger than it is elsewhere.
What does Prompt-by-Prompt Comparison show?
Prompt-by-Prompt Comparison groups the head-to-head answers by prompt, so you can see where a competitor beats you on each question. Click a prompt to expand it and see each platform (and region) with You, Them and Diff, the answer's sentiment, and a button to view the latest AI response. Expand a platform row to see Previous runs with the date, both scores, the difference and sentiment for each run.
If no answers have been collected yet, the comparison says so. Run tracking from the Visibility page first.
How do I close a gap with a competitor?
To close a gap with a competitor in AnswerixAI, read the answers where the competitor scores higher, find the sources that feed those answers, and turn the prompt into content. Then compare the scores again after a few tracking runs.
- Open the head-to-head comparison and select the Gaps tab.
- Open the biggest gaps and click the eye icon to read the AI response. Note what the competitor is credited with and which sources the answer cites.
- Check Citations → Competitor Gaps for the domains that feed the competitor's answers.
- Use Content to turn the prompt into a content brief and draft.
- Come back after a few tracking runs and compare Score Difference and Platform Breakdown.
